Did you know that San Francisco has 67 fire hydrants dedicated to providing drinking water in the event of an emergency? Neither did I. When the Big One hits, firefighters will open these hydrants to the thirsty masses.

I participated in Random Hacks of Kindness San Francisco 2011. Our goal was to raise awareness of these vital emergency tools. I decided to load them all as venues in FourSquare.
A Google Maps expert parsed the informational PDF and created a Fusion Table. I designed and helped implement a solution for importing Fusion Tables as Foursquare Venues. In alpha now, it will soon be made available for other civic organizations.
